Bio Who is Mrisi

Mrisi has been teaching young people music since he was around the age of 16. Over these years he has worked many: including primary school children, young offenders, BME groups, homeless young people, disabled young people and troubled young people. Through this work, he was able to develop their literacy skills through the medium of writing lyrics so as to promote positive wellbeing. This was mainly achieved using the Rap style and method of expression and was, too, used as a means to develop their music technology skills whilst also enhancing their computer literacy.

Mrisi has worked as a mentor, workshop leader and a trainer of trainees and his work with young people has spanned across both London and Brighton. Mrisi is able to deliver workshops around lyric writing, poetry and performance, music production and piano skills. At ease, it would be possible for Mrisi to bring studio equipment to location and deliver high quality music to clients; all within an hour session. Mrisi's work is very much inclusive of all; catering for all ages, skill level and performance genres. This type of workshop package is something Mrisi can also offer alongside any performances.

Pianist, rapper and producer Mrisi is a multifaceted artist with a varied musical background, by which the development of his sound has sought to unify these areas of influence. This has included a range of sounds from traditional South African music to Jazz piano and grass roots Hip Hop. Over the years, this has enabled him to perform at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, The Brighton Fringe Festival, Sofar Sounds and all over the UK and in South Africa, supporting the likes of Omar, Prince Fatty, Rizzle Kicks and along side working with the likes of Rag N Bone Man. His current performances display his skill on the piano and his challenging, thoughtful yet often witty lyricism. His performance includes two backing singers who not only introduce a more soulful element, but their three part harmonies grace the unique performance with an almost choral feel. Mrisi is one to watch with his up and coming project Mamela which has recently received direct support on Rag’n’Bone Man’s Facebook artist page.

Mamela EP Release on 30/04/2017

About Mamela:

The release of his first EP 'Mamela' is set to intrigue the ears of many as it synthesises the areas of musical influence that have formed the foundation for Mrisi's current project. With the help of Mwetcher, the initial chapter is revealed of his musical novel, allowing a subtle insight into the musical and political passions that have urged him to make himself heard. The EP as a whole verges on both playful and fearless; whilst the vocal, instrumental and lyrical talent, like the messages brought to you on certain tracks, are most definitely hard to ignore. The jazzy piano, and incredible harmonies from the girls, create a piece of work who's message is of importance, but whereby the delivery of this live recorded EP maintains a warm playful and timeless aura- with, of course, that modern calling still heard.
